Sunday in the Park with Colin

We like a lot of things about our neighborhood, but one of the best things is that we have two city parks within walking distance of our house. Our favorite is what we call the Mattie Park. The park, which was finished earlier this summer, is named in memory of Mattie Stepanek (who lived in our neigborhood until he passed away in 2004) and has an accessible playground with equipment for big and little kids. (It also has Rockville's first dog park, but we haven't had a chance to try that out yet.)

Since today was one of those rare August days in the 70s, we took a trip to the Mattie Park. Colin's favorite thing is the slides.

We learned two things from what other parents in the park were telling their kids today.

1. "You can't climb up the slides."












2. "It's too dangerous to slide head first."









Oops, I guess we didn't learn our lessons very well!

Interestingly, he hates the swings. The kid has no fear, but he'll scream his head off if you dare put him in a swing.
